Good morning,Governor Patrick Morrisey says thousands of public workers across West Virginia will soon see bigger paychecks. During an appearance in Wheeling, Morrisey announced a statewide three-percent pay raise for public sector employees, including teachers, state troopers, highway workers and other state employees. Officials say the increase is aimed at helping recruitment and retention as inflation continues impacting families across the Mountain State.Meanwhile, investigators say environmental monitoring around the Ames Goldsmith Catalyst Refiners plant in Institute continues to show no dangerous readings following last month’s deadly chemical reaction. Two workers were killed and another seriously hurt after authorities say chemicals were accidentally mixed while a tank was being decommissioned. Federal investigators with the U.S. Chemical Safety Board remain on scene as the investigation continues.In Mason County, taxpayers are getting some financial relief thanks in part to new revenue connected to Nucor Steel. County commissioners voted to roll back levy rates, a move expected to save taxpayers around 300-thousand dollars annually. Officials say new property tax revenue from the steel operation made the reduction possible.Cabell County is also launching what officials call the first flood warning system of its kind in West Virginia. The new Doppler radar stream gauge near Hite Saunders Elementary School monitors water levels around the clock in an area prone to flooding. Emergency officials say the system could provide residents in the Enslow Park community with up to an hour of warning before floodwaters arrive.And in Huntington, the Marshall University men’s basketball program continues rebuilding through the transfer portal. The Herd announced the additions of players from N.C. State, Tulane and Elon as the team prepares for the upcoming season under head coach Cornelius Jackson.Meanwhile, leadership changes are coming to the The Salvation Army in Wheeling.
