Egidio James Vascetti left New Castle High School as a seventeen-year-old in nineteen-forty-four to enlist in the U.S. Navy during World War Two, completing eighteen trips across the Atlantic. Exactly eighty-two years later, the school board voted unanimously to present the veteran and former local restaurateur with his honorary high school diploma in a special cap-and-gown ceremony at his home.In crime news, a New Castle public works employee has been fired after being charged with approaching a teenage girl at Cascade Park and demanding sexual favors.
