Good morning. Turning to news from across the Empire State.New York authorities have released critical updates regarding the fatal police shooting of a seventeen-year-old boy in Wappingers Falls over the weekend. Law enforcement officials reveal that officers originally responded to a local residence on Saturday to handle an emergency call regarding a suicidal individual. Upon arriving at the scene, police encountered Oscar Granados Colindres standing directly on the ledge of an overpass bridge while armed with a knife. State investigators report that the teenager then lunged and ran directly toward responding officers with the weapon, forcing them to open fire. No bystanders or officers were injured during the incident, and the New York State Attorney General’s Office has officially launched a full independent review. In political news, a major upset is shaking up Central New York as community organizer Maurice Brown officially declared victory in the competitive Democratic primary race to represent the one hundred twenty-ninth Assembly District. Following a comprehensive tally of absentee ballots by the Onondaga County Board of Elections, twenty-eight-year incumbent Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli publicly conceded the race and congratulated Brown on his hard-fought victory. Brown will now move forward to challenge Republican nominee Shawn Fiato on Election Day in November.Meanwhile, an intense summer scorcher is bearing down on New Yorkers today, triggering widespread Extreme Heat Warnings across the Capital Region, Central New York, and the entire Hudson Valley. The National Weather Service warns that dangerously hot conditions will persist through Friday evening, with maximum heat indices expected to surge between one hundred five and one hundred ten degrees in some areas. Local municipalities are activating emergency relief resources, with Syracuse and Albany counties opening multiple public cooling centers at community centers and local sports arenas to help vulnerable residents escape the hazardous conditions. And there is tragic news out of Albany County, where the extensive search for a missing seven-year-old child from Menands has officially ended in heartbreak. Local authorities confirmed the body of Harbe Nagi was discovered yesterday inside a residential swimming pool just two doors down from where he was last seen on Park Drive this past Sunday. Investigators noted that the young boy was non-verbal and autistic. While police are currently awaiting the final results of an official autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, state officials confirm that absolutely no foul play is suspected. For more news from across the state, download the radioNOVO app. I’m Codi Gaboff, radioNOVO News.
